Obituary For Vrail Willie "V. W." George, Sr

With hearts lifted, we celebrate the life, legacy, and homegoing of Deacon Vrail "VW" George
Sr.; a devoted man of faith, a loving husband and father, friend, and source of light to many. On
July 7th, 2026, at the age of 91, Deacon George transitioned from a long life of service to his
reward. Though absent from the body, he is now present with the Lord he loved and served with
his whole heart.

Born the first of eleven children to the late Leon and Laura George, Deacon George led a life of
devotion and service to all he encountered. Often considered a man of few chosen words, his
life was his message. If only one word could describe VW’s daily approach, it was “service” - to God, family, church, friends, and his various vocations. Showing up every day with a sense of clarity and purpose to the task at hand.

A man of discipline and honor, Deacon George also served his country faithfully in the United States Navy for five years, demonstrating dedication, integrity, and excellence in every assignment God placed before him.

Deacon George was blessed to share his life with the late Minister Brenda George, his loving
partner and greatest supporter. He leaves a legacy through his children, Vershelle, Vrail (Katrina), and Vyran, and his dearest grandchildren Vrail (Tre) George III, Myra Schaffer, Marie (Gabbie) Schaffer, and Vance George; all of whom shared a special connection with him in his final years.

He is survived by his siblings, Iola G. Nichelson, Melvin George (Lynette), and Gerald George (Debra), along with a host of cousins and his church family at Cedar Grove.

Today, we do not only grieve the loss of VW's presence in our lives; we celebrate with hearts
filled with joy, the same joy he carried with him every day, no matter the circumstance. May his life, his legacy, and his message serve as a daily reminder to us all: to follow God's will and commit each day to its gift with devotion, discipline, and a loving heart.
“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.” Psalm 103:13

However, you knew him; Vrail, VW, Honey, Dad, Deacon, Mr. George, or Peepaw; he will live on
through us

To the George Family, my condolences to you for the loss of Deacon George, a quiet spirit but an honorable man that I have known for many years. Although his body is not here, his legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren. I have many memories of Deacon George and Brenda. It was through their leadership and their prayers that have brought me to where I am in Christ today. You have my prayers for Gods comfort. Let the Grace of God comfort you through this transition. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. It is the ONLY hope for the believer. I look forward to that great getting up morning to see the face of Jesus. TIL we meet again at his feet. Family be encouraged. Yours in Christ Brenda White
