Obituary For John Douglas "J.D." Robertson
John Douglas “JD” Robertson was born on January 6, 1940, in Grosse Tete, Louisiana, to William “Bill” Robertson and Nellie Willis Robertson. A proud son of his hometown, J.D. graduated with the Thomas A. Levy High School Class of 1959. He accepted Christ and was baptized at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie McNell. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he served faithfully for many years as chairman of the deacon ministry, guiding and supporting his church family with humility and devotion.
Following high school, J.D. answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he fulfilled his duties with honor and pride. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued a life of service through his work with the United States Postal Service. His dedication to his community extended even further as he later served as a Police Officer for the Village of Grosse Tete and as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Department. In every role, J.D.’s integrity, strength of character, and quiet leadership left a lasting impact on those he served.
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, J.D. gained his wings and entered eternal rest. Though he has departed this earthly life, his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
J.D. leaves to cherish memories his daughter: Lakeri King-Hill (Calvin) Erwinville, son; Jevon King (Jesseka) of San Antonio, six grandchildren; Eril West, Dequinton Davenport, Alexi King, Olivia King, Stella King and Jackson King; two step-granddaughters; Makayla and Miesha Hill; two great-grandchildren; Dakari Davenport and Nova Dortch; special niece Mary Pickney; special nephew, Ivory Robertson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Joseph Faveron, Thomas Faveron, James Rogers, Albert Willis, Adam Robertson and Hosea Robertson; six sisters, Leaster Johnson, Mattie Martin, Beatrice Perkins, Evelina Brame, Orabell Johnson and Nellie Boyd.
