Obituary For Georgia Bruce Day

Georgia Bruce Day, daughter of the late Clarence and Rosie Parker Bruce, was born January 2, 1954, in St. Francisville, Louisiana. She was the youngest of seven children. Georgia transitioned from this life on July 5, 2026, at Baton Rouge General Mid City – Butterfly Wing.

She was educated in West Feliciana Parish and graduated from St. Francisville High School, Class of 1972.

She accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized, and became a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church in St. Francisville. Upon moving to Baton Rouge, she became a member of St. Mary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Conway L. Knighton.

She was united in Holy matrimony to Milton Day on February 14, 1981. To this union, one child was born: Gunisha Brasha Day Matthews.

Georgia lived a quiet, simple life, finding joy in everyday moments. Due to long‑time health challenges, she spent most of her time at home, surrounded by those who loved her. She will be remembered not for titles or accomplishments, but for her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the love she shared. She was often the highlight of family gatherings, bringing warmth and laughter wherever she was.

She is survived by her daughter, Gunisha Matthews (Ian); her grandchildren, the apple of her eye, Keldric Jr. and Peighton; her siblings, Hattie Bruce Douglas, Rosie Deloris Trask, Sarah Parker Cannon, Johnny Parker, and her twin, Joseph Bruce; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Willie Bruce (Josephine); a sister, Lillie Davis; a nephew, Dwayne Everette Douglas; a great‑nephew, Kirkendal Monroe; and a brother‑in‑law, Emerson Trask.

Although Georgia is not with us in body, she will forever be with us in our hearts. She will be greatly missed.
